Raising
the Frame
Raising
day is filled with anticipation and excitement. The raising is a community effort that requires a great deal
of organization. When a crane is
used, 6-10 people make the most efficient crew.
Hand raisings require more hands.

The frame is first assembled and pegged on the ground in sections
called bents.

Each bent determines the frames height, width, and shape.
After the first bent is raised, it is temporarily braced.
As the following bents are raised, connecting girts, and knee braces are
put in place and pegged.
